Mid Columbia Bus Co. would like to welcome all students to the 2011-12 School Year. We have had a very busy summer, training drivers as well as confirming that all buses are ready for another safe and reliable school year. I am pleased to report that all regular route drivers will be returning this year to their previously assigned routes.
The dispatch office has been busy with routing to insure all students are served with transportation in a timely and efficient manner. We are currently putting together mid-day Kindergarten routes so if your incoming “kindy” student has not yet registered at Willow School and needs transportation, we encourage you to do so. Kindy students needing transportation will be assigned one “primary’ pick-up and drop off address. Should that address need to change on any given day, parents will need to make arrangements to have their student transported. Parents who either move mid year or want to change day care providers, will need to contact Midco ahead of time to insure we can make that accommodation. In all cases, efforts will be made to meet your needs. Please keep in mind that changing the route in the middle of the year affects all students on the bus, so please avoid changes if possible. Requests for a permanent change in pick-up or drop off location will need to be made in writing. Forms will be available at Willow School or at Midco’s office located at 1901 Jefferson St in LaGrande. Parents are reminded that Kindy students WILL NOT be dropped off without a parent, guardian, or sibling present to receive them. While this may not be convenient it is in the best interest for the safety of all. The only exception to this rule will be if your kindy students is dropped at a Elementary School in the PM during times when the school loading zone is monitored by District Personnel. Kindy students that are not met at their bus stop by designated individual will be returned to Willow School.
All remaining regular routes are being evaluated to insure efficiencies. Students who live in or ride to/from the Candy Cane Park area as well as the Sunny Hills area, will see some stops consolidated thereby increasing walk distances for some. We ask for your co-operation in this change as we continue to strive to keep transportation costs to a minimum allowing the District to maximize what limited funding they have access to.
Parents are requested to notify Midco should their student not require transportation in the AM. Midco’s office is staffed from 6:00am to 5:00pm on all school days and we can be reached by calling 541-963-6119. After hours calls will be directed to “voice mail’. I can also be reached via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for your co-operation and assistance in helping to insure we have yet another Accident Free school year.
