Homeless Definition:

• Lack a fixed, regular and adequate night time residence which is sufficient for meeting both the physical and psychological needs typically met in home environments.

 They may be living in:

• Trailer park / camp ground
• Motel / hotel rooms
• Doubled up, sharing housing with family or friends due to economic hardship
• Waiting for permanent foster care placement
• Transitional or emergency shelter

Unaccompanied Youth Definition:

• Youth lacks supervision by parent or legal guardian, having run away, been kicked out of their home, or abandoned by their family.

Warning Signs of Homelessness:

• Chronic hunger and tiredness
• Attendance at many different schools
• Erratic school attendance and tardiness
• Grooming and personal hygiene issues
• Shoes that are too big or too small
• Inappropriately dressed for the season
• Consistently comes to school without books, homework, supplies, or signed papers
• Change in behavior, often characterized by withdrawal, extreme shyness, nervousness,aggression, and / or anger
• Mention of staying with grandparents, other relatives, friends, or in a motel
