Providing services to a “Highly Mobile Population” Homeless/Unaccompanied &Youth in Transition Homeless Definition:- Lack a fixed, regular and adequate night time residence which is sufficient for meeting both the physical and psychological needs typically met in home environments.
They may be living in:
- Trailer park / camp ground
- Motel / hotel rooms
- Doubled up, sharing housing with family or friends due to economic hardship
- Waiting for permanent foster care placement
- Transitional or emergency shelter
Unaccompanied Youth Definition:- Youth lacks supervision by parent or legal guardian, having run away, been kicked out of their home, or abandoned by their family.
Warning Signs of Homelessness:- Chronic hunger and tiredness
- Attendance at many different schools
- Erratic school attendance and tardiness
- Grooming and personal hygiene issues
- Shoes that are too big or too small
- Inappropriately dressed for the season
- Consistently comes to school without books, homework, supplies, or signed papers
- Change in behavior, often characterized by withdrawal, extreme shyness, nervousness,aggression, and / or anger
- Mention of staying with grandparents, other relatives, friends, or in a motel
