The Farm to Child Nutrition Program works to connect Oregon farmers, ranchers, seafood harvesters, and food processors with school cafeterias and summer meal sites. It is a federal grant program that enables La Grande School District to provide fresh local foods to the children of our community.

THE GOALS OF THE LA GRANDE SCHOOL DISTRICT FARM TO CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM

  • Increase students’ knowledge of where their food comes from, how it is grown, and the benefits of eating locally;

  • Improve students’ nutrition by increasing their exposure and access to fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats.

  • Develop new markets for local farms and connect students to the source of their food by incorporating more locally grown foods into meals served in schools

OUR WINTER 2023 -24 FARM TO CHILD NUTRITION FOCUS PARTNER IS: UMI ORGANIC YAKISOBA from Portland, OR!

These noodles are something special, made from 50 percent Oregon-grown whole grain, featuring durum and Edison from Camas Country Mill in Junction City, Oregon and grown by Oregon farmer Tom Hunton. The noodles taste amazing; not like the whole grain noodles of the past. Chewy, flavorful, fun to eat! Check your menus for these noodles, your kids will love them. We are preparing them with chicken and teriyaki, and a Japanese cucumber salad, SIMPLY DELICIOUS!
