When is My Child Too Sick for School?

These guidelines are provided by the Oregon Department of Education, Oregon Health Authority, and Union County Public Health. They were developed to help prevent the spread of potentially contagious disease.

FEVER greater than 100.4 degrees F

This is a primary symptom of COVID-19. Please keep your student home and contact your school secretary so they can get you in touch with one of the school nurses to determine a safe return date for your child.

Purple Face with Open Mouth

NEW, UNUSUAL AND/OR PERSISTENT COUGH or SHORTNESS OF BREATH or DIFFICULTY BREATHING

Blue Face with Crosses in Eyes and Straight Line Mouth

NEW LOSS OF TASTE OR SMELL

VOMITING or DIARRHEA

Vomiting: At least one episode that is unexplained. Diarrhea: Sudden onset of loose BM OR 3 or more BMs in 48 hours. For vomiting or diarrhea, may return 48 hours after last episode.

Student may return to school in 24 hours if symptoms are improving.
