Staff School Closure / Delay Procedures

Late Start - All Staff:  A delayed start means school starts two hours later than a normal schedule.

  • Certificated instructional staff need to report to work by 9:30 a.m.

  • All custodial/maintenance/food service staff will report at their normal starting time; or as assigned by custodial/maintenance supervisor.

  • K-3, K-6, or K-12 in-person instructional services will begin 2 hours later than normal; Limited In Person Instruction will be cancelled for the day.

  • All school administration, school office and district office staff should report at their regularly assigned time, if feasible, because response to parent inquires and coordination of maintenance and custodial services are necessary during this time. Exceptions will require the approval the supervisor or superintendent.

  • All remaining classified staff who do not work under the above guidelines shall come in at least 30 minutes prior to the delayed school start time if they have an AM schedule; Bus staff must arrive based on adjusted bus schedule.  Classified staff may request flex time to replace lost time as approved by their building administrator and flex time will be made up within 1 month. Normal leave provisions will apply in making up lost time.  Employee safety is paramount as it relates to delays and closures; with this in mind our district expectation is that administrators will communicate and work with classified staff to provide opportunities for make-up time with the aligned goal that classified employees will not suffer a loss of wages due to delays unless they so choose. If this is the case, classified staff may utilize unpaid leave or previously accrued paid leave (comp time/flex time).

School Closure - Licensed Staff:

When school is closed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, licensed staff do not need to report for work: Teacher attendance shall not be required when all students are excused because of inclement weather. When students are required to make up days missed, teachers shall also be required to make up these days. In the event that make-up days are not required of students, teachers shall fulfill their contract year by participating in designated curriculum or district in-service days prior to June 15 of each year.

School Closure - Classified Staff:

When school is closed due to inclement weather, custodial, facilities/maintenance, designated school office and district office staff should report to work by 7:30 to support with safety, communication, and snow removal. Designated staff listed above that may not be able to report to work due to hazardous conditions shall utilize normal leave provisions. Work exceptions or make up time will require the approval of their immediate supervisor and must be accounted for in writing at the building level.

Classified staff not under the above guidelines should not report to work during the closure day. These staff shall not suffer a loss of wages unless they so choose. Classified Staff unable to report to work due to hazardous conditions may also utilize unpaid leave or previously accrued paid leave (comp time/flex time).  In the event that the district is required to extend the school year in order to make up lost time, classified staff will be expected to work the lost time without additional compensation. If the school year is not extended, classified staff are expected to make up lost hours before the end of the school year at a time scheduled with their principal, which may include professional development on teacher workdays, work on special projects, etc. Missed and made up hours will be tracked at the building level and must be accounted for in writing.

School Closure - Administrators, Directors, & Managers:

When school is closed due to inclement weather, administrative and managerial staff should report to work by 7:30 to support with safety, communication, and snow removal. Staff unable to report to work due to hazardous conditions shall utilize normal leave provisions. Work exceptions or make up time will require the approval of the superintendent and must be accounted for in writing with the superintendent.
