In early October, more than 140 LHS Class of 2026 Seniors spent several hours in service to the La Grande community. The annual Tigers Give Back Day/Senior Day of Service every fall is an opportunity for students to contribute to La Grande.
A variety of projects were organized at multiple locations. These included Island City Elementary School, La Grande High School, Ladd Marsh, La Grande Parks and Rec, Neighbors Together, Mt. Emily Recreation Area (MERA), Blue Mountain Humane Society, Union County Fairgrounds and local senior living centers.
Projects ranged from shoveling and spreading landscaping materials to taking care of animals to chopping and stacking firewood for senior citizens.
Tigers Give Back Day/Senior Day of Service is a great opportunity for the high school and community organizations to collaborate, said Sam Fiorito, Assistant Principal at LHS. “Senior Service Day is a wonderful way to promote positive interactions between the school, staff, students and the community.”
LHS thanks all of the organizations who planned projects for the seniors, staff who accompanied the students and the Class of 2026 Tigers for their hard work.
