fence

“Good fences make good neighbors” is a well-known quote. Central Elementary is neighbors with La Grande High School and they get along fine, but Central’s new playground fence is a welcome addition to the elementary school.

Principal Monica West said the new fence gives students a larger area of grass to run and play on. There are two small new fields for soccer and football. “It’s great to give more space and more play options to kids and now everyone can find something they like to do during recess,” West said.

The fence improves safety on the playground because previously there was no boundary between the elementary playground and the high school baseball/softball field. Principal West said elementary students would sometimes run onto the LHS space, which was more difficult to monitor. “Both schools want to be able to use their spaces safely, and the new fence makes that possible, so we are grateful to the district for building it,” West said.
