During the month of December, students at Central Elementary are finding ways to infuse some holiday spirit into their learning. On a stroll through the halls of the school on December 4th, we popped into some classrooms for a peek.
Kindergartners were making bird feeders by stringing Cheerios onto pipe cleaners.
First graders were doing math by counting snowmen. They were also counting the puddles left by melted snowmen. A bonus was working on their fine motor skills by cutting out their snowmen.
Students in the fourth grade classroom with Teacher Shawn Brooks were working on narrative writing, telling a story about what they did during Thanksgiving break. Brooks encouraged them to use descriptive details and “paint a photo with your words.” To add some festive fun, they had decorated their desktops with colorful holiday wrapping paper.
In Misty Hines’ fifth grade classroom, holiday art was on the schedule. Students were working on creating detailed evergreen tree branches with colorful ornaments.
Finally, in the music classroom, students were practicing songs for the school’s holiday concert, including percussion instruments like maracas and jingle bells.
