La Grande High School Honors Veterans with Music and Spirit

LA GRANDE, OR—The streets of downtown La Grande were filled with patriotic fervor on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, as the community gathered for the annual Veterans Day Parade. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere and providing a vibrant tribute to the nation's heroes were the students of La Grande High School.

The La Grande High School Marching Band marched down Adams Avenue, performing classic military tunes and patriotic music that resonated with the crowds lining the parade route. Their energetic and precise performance was a stirring reminder of the day's significance.

Right alongside the band, the LHS Cheer Team brought their spirit and energy, cheering and waving pom-poms to honor veterans and show their support for the community event. Their enthusiasm helped keep the mood high and festive throughout the parade.

The annual parade, sponsored by American Legion Post 43, is a cornerstone of La Grande's Veterans Day observance. The participation of the high school students underscores the deep respect and gratitude the younger generation holds for the service and sacrifice of veterans.

The parade stepped off at 11 a.m. and proceeded down Adams Avenue, concluding a powerful display of community unity and honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Dear La Grande School District Families, Staff, and Community,

Please be advised that all schools will be closed on Friday, November 7, 2025.

This decision was made to support our role as host of the OSAA 1A/2A Volleyball State Championships. Due to the large number of visiting teams, fans, and officials, we anticipate significant parking and traffic congestion around the high school, Central elementary and La Grande middle school campuses. Closing for the day will ensure safe and efficient access for all guests, volunteers, and event operations.

We shall reschedule this school day to take place on June 5, 2026.

We appreciate your understanding and support as La Grande proudly welcomes schools from across Oregon to this exciting state championship event!

Supporting the Trades: Local Businesses Partner to Equip LHS Manufacturing Students

La Grande High School’s manufacturing program is getting a big boost thanks to a community partnership between Fenn’s Towing and Norco.

When local business owners of Fenn’s Towing learned that the program, led by instructor Doug Gisi, had limited funding for classroom equipment, they wanted to help. Sara Fenn said. “Doug’s program makes a huge difference for students who thrive in hands-on learning, and we want to see it succeed.”

Through a collaboration with Stacey Feik of Norco, the Fenns worked with Gisi to create a wish list of essential gear for students in welding and manufacturing classes. Items like welding helmets, jackets, gloves, and other protective equipment are now being ordered to support the program. Many of the new jackets and gloves will also feature the Fenn’s Towing logo, underscoring the business community’s investment in local education.

“Programs like this often don’t get the same level of funding, yet they provide critical skills for students entering the trades,” Sara added. “By supporting these classes, we’re supporting the next generation of blue-collar workers—our welders, fabricators, and builders.”

Stacey Feik at Norco has been instrumental in helping source quality equipment within the donation budget, stretching dollars to get the most value for students.

The donation highlights the importance of community partnerships in strengthening career and technical education in Union County. For Gisi’s students, the new gear will provide both safety and opportunity as they continue to learn skills that can lead directly into high-demand jobs.

La Grande School District Assistant Superintendent, Scott Carpenter added "We appreciate the passion and generosity of our community regarding CTE programs. Donations like this continue to support students who are developing real-world skills to support our community in the future."

Anyone interested in supporting local youth, inspiring them to explore trades, or strengthening career and technical education is encouraged to reach out to their local schools and see how they can help.
