February is CTE (Career Technical Education) Month
February is National CTE Month. Career and Technical Education provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners.
La Grande students have the opportunity to take CTE classes in the following areas: agriculture, natural resources, manufacturing, visual arts, performing arts, business, hospitality & tourism and medical.

La Grande School Board members say THANK YOU to the students from the LHS Food and Travel 1 class for the delicious meal they cooked for the Board Meeting on January 24th!
The students are taught by Rhonda Calhoon. They prepared fettuccine alfredo with chicken, garlic bread, salad and lemon bars.
When additional funding was earmarked to expand the facilities for the LHS foods program, part of Career Technical Education, opportunities like this are “how we dreamed it would be when we first advocated for the updated facility,” said Scott Carpenter, district Assistant Superintendent. “We are so glad it is a reality for our students today and resulting in new life-long and career skills.”

La Grande School Board Member, Robin Maille shares what it means to be a School Board member. "School board work is important to me because I get to see the results of our decisions over time. All decisions are meant to support kids as they navigate learning in our schools-whether it is related to policy, budget, curriculum, social-emotional support or facility improvement. It is important to support and work with the superintendent and other board members, not against them. We make decisions as a group, through active listening and patience. Expect to invest time in learning about the schools and being part of the committees to explore options and plan for the future."

The public is invited to a Town Hall on Tuesday, January 10th from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the La Grande High School Auditorium to hear information about the proposed 4-Day School Week for the La Grande School District.
The district is currently conducting research to determine the possibility of adopting a four-day school week and has established a 4-Day School Week Committee. The district is seeking input from the La Grande community during this entire process.
“The district views this as an important community decision, and we ask for community participation and support in giving the district input about this idea,” Superintendent George Mendoza said.
