The Union County Youth Fiddle Contest is back! 

This is a fun event and an important part of Eastern Oregon’s fiddling tradition. Anyone ages 2–17 who plays fiddle is welcome to join. Should you enter? Yes — and it’s not just about winning. Here are five reasons to sign up at any skill level: 

  1. Grow your playing. Preparing for a contest motivates practice and helps you improve the tunes you already know. 
  2. Gain stage experience. Playing on stage builds confidence and helps you learn how to perform in front of an audience. 
  3. Make new friends. You’ll meet other fiddlers — young and old — who share your interest in music. 
  4. Hear great fiddling. You’ll be close to skilled musicians. Our judges this year are experienced contest fiddlers with state and national wins. (Don’t miss the judges’ show.) 
  5. Support fiddling. By entering, you help keep a long-standing musical tradition alive and encourage fellow players.

Fiddle Club Registration

  • LaGrande Fiddle Club is accepting returning and new registrations for the upcoming 2025 -2026 school year
  • Class instruction given weekly
  • Registration is renewed every academic trimester at $60 each term.  ($40 if using own instrument)
  • Instruments are provided to borrow. Students limited to grades 3-12.

Dear Family,

We invite you to the Parent Orientation meeting on Tuesday, September 29, at 6:00 PM in the Middle School Commons Room. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the program and connect with the Fiddle Instructors.

Fiddle Club Classes

  • Level 1 (Beginning) La Grande Middle School 3:30-4:30 PM beginning October 7, 20205

    • (Students may utilize the after-school bus to arrive at La Grande Middle School)

    • Last bus drop-off is at 3:20 PM at LMS

  • Level 2 at La Grande Middle School 3:30 - 4:30 PM
  • Level 3 and 4 at La Grande Middle School

Levels 2, 3, and 4 Schedules

  • When: Thursdays beginning October 2, 2025
  • Times: Level 2 - 3:30 to 4:30 PM
  • Times: Levels 3 & 4 - 3:15 to 4:30 or 5:00PM
  • Where: La Grande Middle School Choir Room
  • How: Enter through side choir room door
  • Registration and fees: Register online
  • Pay on first day or online through school district website/Classdojo

Level Placement in Fiddle Club and location of classes

  • Level 3 and 4  placement at teacher discretion. Middle School and High School automatically placed at levels 3/4
